Well, it's more like who wasn't she? She was my darling great-nan. My whole adult life when I have had life change dreams of starting to draft and sell my own patterns, I always knew my first range would be named after her.
I just never contemplated that she wouldn't be here for its release.
Nan bought me my first, own sewing sewing machine for my 11th birthday. I used mums before that. I remember her and Pop walking through the door with it. I was beyond excited! So I definitely have her to thank for continuing me on my lifelong sewing journey.
Whilst many things changed in the years after that, one thing didn't. Nan. she was always there, sometimes the only one. And low and behold, sewing sometimes was the only other constant in those years.
There are many wonderful memories I could share, but this post is a dedication to her and why my first pattern range is named after her. My nan was 84 when she passed. All of her lifes achievements aside, one thing I remember about my nan is how well dressed she always was!! Yep, pant suits, dresses, matching bags to shoes... she was all of that. Oh, I always remember she wore a brooch for dressy occasions. Remember brooches?
Anyway, the Gloria T range was always going to wardrobe staples that could be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Actually, this probably steered the D & S vision of casual to sophisticated. Every pattern must be versatile! And this range definitely fits the brief.
Gloria T Pants
The first Drape & Stitch pattern release! The Gloria T Pant is a close-fitting design with 2 variations. Featuring flattering curves at the waist and hips to suit all shapes and sizes, these pants are perfect under boots as well as paired with your favourite flats.
With a mid-rise waist, these are comfort and style in one, suited to any occasion. More than just a skinny jean! Denim for casual days, ponte for lunch dates or how about wool for sleek work styling?
View A: Features traditional functional pant features: Double stitching, hip pockets, back yoke and belt loops.
View B: Is streamlined for a flattering no-fuss look. Single stitching, cropped ankle length, hip yoke with no pocket pouch, no belt loops or back yoke.
Gloria T Top
Our second pattern release. The Gloria T top is a stretch fabric design with multiple variations. Featuring a centre back seam for a flattering fit around the hips and waist, with no bulky side seams. Choose from sleeveless, short sleeve, and long sleeve.
This top also has a hood option, and the long sleeve comes with a cuff option that has optional thumbhole openings. Hello morning walks!
An optional subtle back cutout takes this style from traditional to modern. Also available with no cutout, a smart tie-back option, and trendy open lower centre back seam. Neckline lengths are crew (c), round (r), and scoop neck (s).
Your desired neckline can be added to any view, using the applicable neckline binding pieces.
Neckline and cutout hems are finished beautifully with a turned bound hem, leaving a no-fuss look that is strong and reduces stretching out of shape, that is common with stretch fabrics. Opt for no binding for a quicker sew.
So many variations make this top a wardrobe staple, the style options are endless!
Gloria T Skirt
Our new pattern release! The Gloria T Skirt is a flattering woven design with 2 variations, midi or maxi length. Sitting on the high hip line, this skirt has flattering curves around the hips and back. Princess seams, no bulky side seams and subtle front opening make for a stunning shape. Designed to flow and drape from the hips, this skirt will see you from day to night in style.
Choose from either a button or tie closure.
View A: Midi length: Front opening, optional hidden zipper or snap closures, button flap waistband. 4 panels with princess seams.
View B: Maxi length: Front opening, optional hidden zipper or snap closures, belt tie waistband with one belt loop. 4 panels with princess seams.
This skirt fits the brief: versatile and suited to any occasion- casual days in rayon, cotton or linen, date nights in stunning satin. So many choices! The Gloria T skirt is designed for use with woven fabrics.
The Gloria T Blazer
Ok, ok, this one won't be released until 2021. But there was no way the Gloria T range would have been complete without a smart, versatile jacket. I cannot wait for this one!
Every Drape & Stitch range will be available to purchase as a capsule wardrobe, once the pattern range has been released in full. Yes, at a discount price. Keep your eyes peeled for more info in 2021.
So, in brief that is the Gloria T. I could talk all day about how amazing Nan was, and how inspiring she was for this range. But she was a whole lot more than wardrobe and sewing inspiration. And she wasn't just my great-Nan.
